Wedding at the Swan Shakespeare’s Globe, Bankside London
The day started at the their home for bridal preparation, where I quickly got to work on photographing the details. There was a real international feel to the morning being that the bride is from the Ukraine and groom is from Germany, however the language of photography has no boundary; and I was made to feel just like one of the family too!
After a lovely drive in an open top Bentley, it was off to The Swan which is on the corner of Bankside and New Globe Walk and linked to the Globe Theatre.
Although a modern ceremony, (Would you believe that there was a robot in attendance!) I was introduced to a number of Ukrainian wedding traditions and blessings. The Rushnyk; a ritual cloth or ‘towel’ that the bride and groom step onto and whomever steps first shall be the head of the family. There was also the Korvai, traditional and decorated bread that symbolizes family, community, love, purity, good luck and future prosperity. This was presented to the couple by bride’s father, where the couple broke off a piece of the bread at the same time (I think the size of the piece also symbolised who is in charge too!) and the rest was shared with the family and guests at the reception.
Being great weather we were also able to utilize the great locations around London’s Bankside; including the Globe, Millennium Bridge, along the river Thames and with St Paul’s Cathedral as our backdrop.
Being such literary fans, we also made a quick visit to Tate Modern and managed to grab a few photographs in the Turbine Hall, as well as some cheeky shots actually inside the Tate bookshop all the while being eyed up by the security; we did have permission honest!
Another great day spent with great people!
CD Cover Artwork | London Commercial Photography Commission for Mark A.G. Music
Always a pleasure to work with regular client and vocalist and songwriter Mark A.G. The most recent sessions included a formal headshot session to update his portfolio headshots; and a more involved commercial concept to shoot for the CD Cover artwork of his latest single release ‘Louder’ which is out now and available on iTunes!
I will leave it to Mark A.G. to explain in his own words, the full details of how the concept came about; as well as our difficulties in getting hold of the prop for the shoot… suffice to say it was considerably more complicated that you would have imagined; involving more than several journeys between Brighton, London and the shoot location at Oxleas Woods (Royal Borough of Greenwich)! Although, it was very much worth it in the end!
The work hasn’t stopped there though, I’ve also been working with Mark for some future CD single releases and his album cover that will be out later this year! Watch this space!
